Foster Dogs with Dogs 2nd Chance
Fostering is one of the most direct ways to save a life. Our foster program gives dogs who aren’t ready for adoption — puppies too young to be spayed or neutered, dogs recovering from surgery, or animals who just need a quiet home before they’re ready to meet adopters — a safe place to land. When you foster dogs for Dogs 2nd Chance, you’re opening up a kennel space at our partner shelters and giving a rescue dog the individual attention it needs to become adoptable.
How Our Foster Program Works
Foster families provide a temporary home, love, and basic day-to-day care. In return, Dogs 2nd Chance covers veterinary expenses, provides guidance from our foster coordinators, and helps with supplies when needed. Most fosters last anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months, depending on the dog’s medical and behavioral needs.
Before you bring a dog home, you’ll review and sign our Foster Agreement, which spells out what we provide and what we ask of foster families.
Who Can Foster?
We’re always looking for new foster homes across the Memphis and Mid-South area, whether you can foster for a weekend, a few weeks, or longer. No prior rescue experience is required — just a safe home, a fenced yard or the ability to leash-walk, and a willingness to help a dog settle in.
Ready to get started? Fill out our Foster Dog Application and a foster coordinator will follow up with next steps. Not able to foster right now? You can still help by volunteering, donating, or adopting a dog outright.
