A Note From Our Founder

Dogs 2nd Chance has grown from a small group of dedicated volunteers helping a few dogs into a strong network of volunteers who work tirelessly to save abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs.

Today, our volunteers—men, women, and teenagers from many different backgrounds—give their time, energy, and hearts to helping dogs in need.

We work alongside numerous shelters and rescue organizations throughout the region. While there are many of us working toward the same goal, the number of dogs needing help continues to be overwhelming.

There are simply more dogs in need than the available resources can support.

The challenges of irresponsible pet ownership, abandonment, neglect, and animal cruelty continue to affect communities throughout the Southeast.

Dogs 2nd Chance is committed to being part of the solution by rescuing dogs, providing the medical care and rehabilitation they need, and finding them loving, permanent homes.

There are simply more dogs in need than the available resources can support.

Saving even one dog can change many lives—the dog’s life, the adopter’s life, and the lives of everyone involved in that rescue.

There is nothing more rewarding than watching a frightened, neglected, or hungry dog transform into a happy, confident companion who loves his new family and is deeply loved in return.

Our goal is simple: to give every dog a safe, healthy, happy life where they feel loved, secure, and nurtured.

Our volunteers come from many walks of life, but we are united by our love for dogs and our desire to make a difference.

Through rescue, fostering, transportation, fundraising, adoption events, and community outreach, we work together to give dogs a second chance.

Our goal is simple: to give every dog a safe, healthy, happy life where they feel loved, secure, and nurtured.

One of the things that makes Dogs 2nd Chance unique is our two-week trial adoption program, which gives families and dogs time to adjust to one another before making a permanent commitment.

This approach has helped significantly reduce failed adoptions and create stronger matches between dogs and their new families.

We are proud of the impact we have made, but there is still so much more to do.

We want to continue growing our volunteer team, foster network, partnerships with shelters and rescues, and donor support so that we can save even more dogs and give them the second chance they deserve.

Our Mission

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome stray and abandoned dogs by placing them in loving foster homes and then finding the ideal permanent home for them. We promote the principles of pet ownership, including spay/neuter and heartworm prevention. Our goal is to match needy dogs with the right adopter so that they can enjoy many happy years together.

Who We Are

Dogs 2nd Chance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dog foster group founded in the fall of 2007. Our EIN is 42-1741168.

We’re a group of volunteers who saw the need to help medium and large mixed-breed dogs find permanent, loving homes — and we’ve since grown to help dogs of any size.

We are NOT a shelter. We receive no government funding and depend on our minimal adoption fees, donations, and our own bank accounts. Every dog is fostered in one of our homes and becomes a temporary member of the family while we look for their forever home.

Fostering helps socialize our dogs and helps them adjust to life in a family setting. Most of our dogs were abandoned, dumped, or found running stray.

When we can, we try to reunite lost dogs with their owners by placing ads in local newspapers and online classifieds. We also rescue dogs from high-kill shelters as space allows — caring for the castaways, one dog at a time.

Areas We Serve

With our network of dedicated rescue volunteers, we match homeless and abandoned dogs with forever homes, both locally in the Greater Memphis area as well as up the east coast to the New England area, where there is a shortage of adoptable dogs.

Adult Bully breeds are not transported at all unless going to a breed rescue. We will only adopt bully breeds within a 50 mile radius of Munford, TN.

Our Impact

Since our founding, we’ve found loving homes for more than 2,000 dogs, and we’ve received countless testimonials, photos, and letters from happy families.

It’s deeply gratifying to see animals who were once neglected or abused become loved, loving, pampered pets.

We’ve been rescuing dogs for more than 20 years and have saved over 2,000 along the way. These videos are a few of our favorite success stories, dogs who found their forever homes through Dogs 2nd Chance.

We ensure every dog is fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and any medical needs are addressed before heading to their new forever home.
